या यात्रेतील सर्वात महत्त्वाचं आकर्षण म्हणजे ‘फरांडेबाबा’ – श्री खेलोबा वाघमोडे यांची भाकणूक. दरवर्षी ते शेती, हवामान आणि सामाजिक स्थितीबद्दल भविष्यवाणी करतात. हजारोंच्या उपस्थितीत ही भाकणूक ऐकण्यासाठी भक्त उत्सुक असतात.

पिवळा उत्सव: Yellow Festival
या यात्रेला सध्या ‘Yellow Festival’ म्हणून ओळख मिळत आहे. यात्रेच्या दिवशी संपूर्ण गावात भंडाऱ्याची (पिवळी पावडर) उधळण केली जाते. खोबरं, खारीक आणि हळदीसारखी पिवळी पावडर सर्वत्र उधळली जात असल्यामुळे सर्वत्र पिवळ्या रंगाची चादर पसरते आणि भक्तांचा महासागर तयार होतो.
परंतु, एक महत्त्वपूर्ण बदल!
श्री विठ्ठल बिरदेव मंदिर प्रशासन समितीने या ‘Yellow Festival’ नावावर आक्षेप घेतला आहे.
त्यांनी स्पष्ट केले आहे की, या यात्रेला कोणत्याही विशिष्ट रंगाशी जोडून तिचे महत्त्व कमी करू नये. त्यामुळे, या सोहळ्याचा उल्लेख केवळ आणि फक्त ‘श्री विठ्ठल बिरदेव यात्रा’ या नावानेच करण्यात यावा, असे आवाहन मंदिर समितीने भाविकांना आणि प्रसारमाध्यमांना केले आहे.
तरीही, ढोलाचा गजर, कैताळचा नाद आणि तलवार नृत्यांनी या उत्सवात भक्तीचा आणि उत्साहाचा रंग अधिकच भरतो!

Every year, a small village named Pattankodoli in Maharashtra’s Kolhapur district gets immersed in a yellow color. Here, thousands of devotees gather to witness a spectacular event – the Shri Vitthal Birdev Yatra. This is not just a fair, but a celebration of faith, tradition, and the human spirit.
History and Tradition: A Spiritual Journey
Shri Vitthal Birdev is the family deity of the Dhangar community. According to local legends, a devotee named Mahaling Raya established the deity here after offering his sword. The unique blend of the temple’s serenity and the yatra’s devotional fervor can be experienced here.
Main Attraction of the Yatra: The Prophecy of Farandebaba
The most important attraction of this yatra is the prophecy (‘Bhaknuk’) of ‘Farandebaba’ – Shri Kheloba Waghmode. Every year, he makes predictions about farming, weather, and the social situation. Devotees are eager to hear this prophecy in the presence of thousands.

The Yellow Festival
This Yatra is gaining recognition as the “Yellow Festival”. On the day of the Yatra, yellow turmeric powder (Bhandara) is scattered throughout the entire village. Yellow powder, along with dried coconut and dried dates, is generously showered everywhere, creating a sea of yellow and an ocean of devotion.
However, there is an Important Update!
The Shree Vittal Birudev Temple Administration (Trust/Committee) or the local committee has raised an objection to the title ‘Yellow Festival’.
They have clearly appealed that the Yatra’s significance should not be diminished by associating it with any single colour. Therefore, the committee urges devotees and media outlets to refer to the celebration only as the ‘Shree Vittal Birudev Yatra’.
Despite this, the powerful beat of the drums (Dhol), the sound of the Kaitaal (cymbals), and the traditional Sword Dances continue to add immense colour and zeal to this festival of devotion!
